How to fix blinking eyes in Photoshop
A super useful thing to know in photoshop is how to fix blinking eyes! In a large group photo, it’s pretty much impossible to get everyones eyes open at once. For those new to photoshop and/or photography, this tutorial is a must. And it’s easier and quicker than you may think!
Years ago, I was a professional photographer. I really really really enjoyed it! When I first began, I self taught myself photoshop with the help of my husband who learned a little bit about the program in high school.
One of my favorite and most useful tools that I’ve learned, is how to fix blinking eyes, or head swaps (tutorial on that coming soon!). In larger group photos, it’s practically impossible to get the perfect image, especially if there’s children involved. Here’s where the magic of photoshop comes into play!
During your editing, you’ll want to take your favorite image to be your main image. For any blinking eyes, you’ll want to take a similar photograph to pull the ‘good eyes’ from and place it over the bad eyes. It’s actually a really simple process and takes just minutes!
Text Instructions – How to fix blinking eyes
- Import images into photoshop
- Use the Lasso Tool with a small feather (mine was set to 5.3) to draw around the good eyes to create a selection
- Copy the selection you made
- Go to the image tab you want to fix, and paste your selection in
- Move your selection to where you think it should be placed
- Decrease the opacity to around 50% so you can see both the good eyes and bad eyes. This makes it easier to see exactly where to place the good eyes. Move around as needed
- Increase the opacity back to 100%.
- If needed, create a layer mask and brush away any extra areas of the good eyes selection
