Software to Create Products to Sell on Etsy – A Comparison

Do you feel overwhelmed by the thought of starting a new business and creating products? Like.. how do you even start? And how to not waste your time? Because your time is precious! And is learning Adobe Illustrator seriously the best option for software to create products to sell on Etsy?

As for Illustrator.. is it the best option for you? Should you spend the time learning it?

It just depends onĀ what you want to create. So I created this nifty little graphic of popular design software and what their purpose is for a variety of products. I hope this will help you determine if Illustrator is your best option to create products to sell on Etsy.

Umm.. look at all of those check marks under Illustrator! It’s so powerful!

I’m not saying that some of these other products *couldn’t* handle some of these options – however, I only chose to give it a green check if it was completely appropriate for that software. For example, you totally could create an e-book in Canva. But InDesign is a MUCH better option for e-book creation. Ultimately I want to help you choose the right software to create products to sell on Etsy.

Also, some of these can cross over. For example, you may want a photo included in an invitation card you’re designing. Photoshop (and/or Adobe Lightroom!) will help you edit that photo, but you can use that photo in your Illustrator design. A powerful aspect of Adobe programs is that it is compatible with each other.

I understand that there are more options to software to create products to sell on Etsy. Illustrator is my method and it works for me. At the end of the day, choose what works best for you, your business, and the future of your business. Investing time to learning a software that is going to enhance your designs, products, and Etsy success is well worth it in the long run!
